Home-Living: Hand Soap Collection

Sunday, January 11, 2015

For those of you who didn't know, I have a knack for fancy hand soaps :)
You might call me a snob but I just love hand soaps. The reason behind that is maybe because I'm kinda weird with my hands. I don't like my hands to feel dirty or dusty, or greasy or dry, etc. I like my hands to be clean and moist, ALL DAY LONG.

So every time I do something like applying moisturizer to my face or after I pet my cats even for just a stroke, I would wash my hands afterwards. Even when I'm cooking I would do 3-4 times of hand washing during the cooking process (wash hands after slicing onions, wash hands after preparing eggs, wash hands before making rice, etc until I finished cooking). I would also wash my hands after I went outside, before making tea/coffee, after applying body lotion, etc - That's why I always wash my hands up to 5-10 times a day. And THAT's why I need a good hand soap.

I need a good hand soap that would make my hands smells good and would not dry my hands with all those frequent washing that I did during the day. So that's when I started collecting fancy hand soaps. It's not for show-off, but it's because they doesn't dry my hands like the regular hand soaps do. So please don't judge me (*_^)

So anyway, I just recently purchased two new soaps from Bath & Body Works when they were having a sale last week ( 2 hand soaps for IDR 160k ), and I purchased their Aqua Blossom Deep Cleansing Hand Soap and Peach Bellini Gentle Foaming Hand Soap.

Below are the whole collection of my hand soaps (PS: my stash is not that much, but it's probably too much for someone who doesn't collect handsoaps ;p) :

They are mostly from Bath & Body Works because I used to buy them when they were having huge sales on their website and then I have them shipped to my brother in law's address who was residing in the US at that time. I also bought a couple of them when I went to Singapore a few months ago when BBW were not available here yet in Jakarta.

But now Bath & Body Works has opened it's stores here in Jakarta and I am so excited because it is one of my favorite store! Me and hubby K also love BBW hand soaps especially the foamy hand soaps because they last longer than the regular hand soap (which means it saves us money on the long run), so most of my stash includes those foaming hand soaps from BBW.

BBW Citrus Garland (my current kitchen sink handsoap)
BBW Cranberry Tangerine Foaming Hand Soap
BBW Fresh Sparkling Snow Foaming Hand Soap

BBW Iced Ginger Bread (my current guest handsoap)
BBW Kitchen Lemon Foaming Hand Soap
BBW Peach Bellini Foaming Hand Soap

BBW Aqua Blossom Deep Cleansing Hand Soap
BBW Twilight Woods Deep Cleansing Hand Soap
Marks & Spencer Lily of The Valley Moisture Rich Hand Wash (my current bathroom handsoap)

From all my BBW hand soaps collection, only two of them are the Deep Cleansing variant which I think would be perfect for my bathroom sinks. The rest of them are the Gentle Foaming variant which is our favorite type of BBW hand soaps - which I like to use in the kitchen or when I have guests.

Before I tried BBW hand soaps I used to buy Marks & Spencer hand soaps because they have pretty packaging, they doesn't dry my hands even after repeated washing, and they smells great too. I also found a new hand soap brand that I found in Ace Hardware called Astonish that also smells great and surprisingly the scent lasts on my hands for a lot longer than any other hand soaps! So that's a score for me :)

The last two of my Marks & Spencer hand soaps:
Lily of The Valley (which I'm currently using)
China Blue (which we finished recently)

Astonish Milk & Honey Anti-Bacterial Handwash
(which I'm currently using for my bedroom sink at my parents in law's house)

I think I would buy the Astonish hand soap again from Ace Hardware (in another variant, of course) because I love it so much. Every time I use this soap I can still smell the soft scent that lingers in my hand long after I washed my hands :) - This soap makes me want to always wash my hands!

One thing to note: it is a bit pricey for a hand soap (around IDR 40k when I bought it), but the bottle is huge (!) so I think it has the most higher value for money compared to BBW or Marks & Spencer hand soaps above (^_^). Totally worth trying out if you like fancy handsoaps like I do ;p

Do you love hand soaps too?
Do you have a favorite brand of hand soaps?
Lemme know!

Adios Chicas!

Eve Organics Review

Thursday, May 19, 2011

I have the opportunity to review a couple of mineral make up items from Eve Organics. They sent me their Natural Eyeliner and two of their Natural Lip Liners. Eve Organics is a pure mineral make up and organic skin care company that strive to provide their customers the finest in the organic and mineral beauty products.
Their products are free of parabens, preservatives, chemicals, and bismuth oxychloride (this one is known to cause skin reactions, clog and enlarge pores). They also avoid the use of toxic ingredients in their products. They believe that only the finest ingredients nature gives us should be acceptable for the care and beautification of our skin.

Eve Organics have quite many range of products from mineral make up (foundations, powders, brushes, etc) to organic skin care (cleansers, moisturizers, etc). You can shop by those categories on their website or you can also shop by skin conditions category (oily, dry, combo, etc).

For this review, I was sent a Natural Eye Liner in Midnight Blue and two Natural Lip Liners in Sweet Merlot and Bronze Babe.
Both of the eyeliner and the lip liners are made from jojoba and natural waxes that create a creamy texture that stays on without smudging or bleeding. They also contain natural plant extracts and proprietary mineral blends.

Oh I always love natural make up because they are so light on your skin and yet have very gorgeous colors. And it really helps knowing that what you put on your skin are safe for you.

The Midnight Blue eyeliner is a deep blue color with a little of metallic shine in it which I love. It looks dark enough on your eyes and perfect for smokey eyes look or for the alternative for your black eye liner.
It really didn't smudge or bleeds at all when I used it, and the color is strong enough and last quite long. It's easy to grip when you use it and it's so easy to clean up too when I cleanse my make up at night with a cleanser. It costs $14.95 at their website and they have a few color options there.

As for their Natural Lip Liners I love both of the colors they sent me. They also have several other color options on their website with the same price of $14.95.
The left is the Bronze Babe and the right is Sweet Merlot. Sweet Merlot is more like a brownish deep red while Bronze Babe is well..bronze :) But surprisingly, both of them looks quite natural on the lips! I love wearing both of them, sweet merlot for day use while bronze babe for night parties/events. They don't bleeds at all and the color is strong but very blend-able. It holds up my lipstick for quite longer and they look great on their own (i just color my lips all over with the lip liner and smudge it evenly with lip brush).

Eve Organics price range is affordable and now that I reviewed them I can see that they are made of good quality. Check out their other products and their very informative FAQ's page on their website here.

SWEET DEALS:
  • They are currently offering FREE SHIPPING for orders over $75.
  • They have $1 sample packets should you need to sample some colors to choose which one is right for you (for example: in choosing foundation).
  • They are also offering a Monthly Free Sample where they send free item for you to try. Every month they have different item to send as free sample. Currently, due to high demand there's a small fee of $.50 cent to get the free sample.

DO GOOD WHILE YOU SHOP:
Every quarter, Eve Organics will give 10% of it's net profits to a different charity to help support people or communities in need. They choose organizations that they believe will use the money directly for it's cause instead of to pay it's administrators. You can also nominate a charity for their quarterly donation, just email them and they will do the rest.

Shaw Treatment Review + GIVEAWAY ! - CLOSED

Thursday, January 6, 2011

I have the opportunity to try a variety of products from Shaw Treatment, and when the package finally arrived a couple of days ago I was so happy and couldn't wait to try it. The reviews on other blogs make me very curious and wants to try it myself. Their website also very user-friendly and I love what I see and read on the website.

Shaw Treatment is a company who offer great body care products while helping to make the world a better place. For any Shaw Treatment product that you buy they will donate over 25% of the sale to a charity working on grass-roots community projects in Africa. And you could choose which charity focus you want to support from several options they listed at their website.
That is one major commitment and I always have the most respect for companies like this.

They also have a great "No risk 365 Day Guarantee" policy, so if you're not satisfied you can keep the bottle and get all your money back >> which I highly doubt because I'm sure you will love it ;)

Other thing that I love about this company is the fact that they use natural and organic ingredients for their products. They blend it with science to make products that is safe for our skin , even for the most sensitive ones.

They also supports Ethical Trade, Vegan (do not contain any animal by-products and have not been tested on animals), and every bottle and container is Recyclable and Biodegradable. >> SUPER AWESOME!

And now for the review,
I received their JET SET - SWAHILI COAST Sampler Travel Set:
It includes four 2oz. bottles of :
Body Lotion, Face & Body Cleanser, Volumizing Shampoo & Conditioner.

This is like sampling the most popular products from Shaw treatment all at once! And I didn't waste any time to try them out. I took a bath that afternoon with the Swahili Coast Face & Body Cleanser, wash my hair with the Volumizing Shampoo & Conditioner, and put on the Body Lotion afterward. And the first thing I noticed is: the scent. It was HEAVENLY.

Oh I love the scent of the Swahili Coast line.. I can't describe it to you but it's just spellbinding. A little bit like vanilla. Wait, no, I think it was coconut...added with tropical fruit infusion. Yes, that's it! And I just simply love it.

The body cleanser, shampoo & conditioner didn't lather much which what I expect from natural soaps and shampoo. Who needs lather and suds anyway, since most of them are made of chemicals, yikes! I like mine with little to no suds, the less chemicals got in contact with my skin the better ;)

The shampoo & conditioner really do it's job, my hair is volumized and didn't limp at all. But what I love most is the Body Lotion. It smells really great (!) and the scent lingers on my skin for many hours. I love the consistency of the lotion too, it's not greasy and not too liquid-y. My skin absorbs it easily and no residue left >> > L.O.V.E

DO GOOD WHILE YOU SHOP!
Every profit made will be donated by Shaw Treatment to charities supporting relief efforts throughout Africa. They will donate over 25% of the sale to a charity of your choice! (list of charities are on their website)

Ylang-Ylang candle and Organic Eye Oil (Review+Giveaway) - CLOSED

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

I got a toothache, sob :(
And I got a rather bad mood too today..
But thanks to the Ylang-Ylang candle from Raw Gaia I can reduce my bad mood. Ylang-ylang has great calming qualities and it also helps to relax the nervous system and to help combat feelings of stress, shock, anger, fear and/or anxiety. Perfect!

It's a great big candle (which I love, perfect for decor too) and I also got myself Raw Gaia's Revitalising Eye Oil. I've always been wanted to try to use eye oil because at my age I think I should start treating the area around my eyes before it's too late.

The Revitalizing Eye Oil is great for nourishing, conditioning and repairing the delicate skin around the eyes, thanks to its high content of vitamins, EFAs, carotenes and antioxidants. It's made with organic cold-pressed oils of sea buckthorn fruit (that has amazing skin repairing and regenerative properties), jojoba (a natural humectant), rosehip (a skin hydrating and nourishing agent, rich in vitamin C and essential fatty acids), and grapeseed (has wonderful regenerative and moisturising properties).

I put this on every night after I clean my face and before I go to bed. I did notice that the area around my eyes are a little bit brighter in the morning, at least it doesnt look 'lumpy' and 'soggy' as it sometimes is. I think it would need a longer time to see the end result, but as for now I'm quite positive that it does give something promising for your eyes.
The only thing that I'd like to suggest is to put more detail in the bottle on how to use it, because it only says "use one drop per eye". I mean, with that instruction someone might have mistaken it for an eye-drop which it ISN'T. You have to massage the eye oil into the area around the eye.
I don't know whether it came with an individual box that contain some instruction on how to use it or not, because for this review I didn't get any box, just the products, but still... i think they should put more info on the bottle.

And as for the Ylang-ylang candle, I love how big it is! And it smells wonderful although it didn't let out a strong scent when it burned, so if you're into a soft and not over-powering scent then this is for you. It could last for 50 hrs burn time too so for £3.95 or $6.20 (there's a currency converter on their website) it's really worth the price. The candle is hand-made entirely from plant wax, coconut and sustainably harvested palm oils. They contain no animal products or petroleum-based paraffin wax. Yeay for earth-friendly products!

What I love most about Raw Gaia is the fact that they use only 100% Natural and Raw ingredients for 99% of their range. They don’t use any chemicals whatsoever so their products really are natural. They also don’t test their products on animals and will not use ingredients or suppliers who undergo animal testing, they are also registered with the Vegan Society. HOW COOL is that? I always appreciate companies like this :)

Raw Gaia has many variety of products from face and body care to baby moisturizer. From essential oils to superfoods. You might wanna check out these gift sets too, it's perfect if you wanna get a taste of Raw Gaia:

This Bath time heaven gift set is on my number one list. It's like relaxing in a chocolate orange bath. Your face smothered with Raw Chocolate Face Pack and then lathered up with sensuous Rose Geranium Raw Soap and finished with a delicious Raw Chocolate Orange piece melting in your mouth. How bout that?

Or maybe this Raw beauty gift set? This set include 100% organic moisturizer, cleanser, toner, and clay face pack to leave your skin feeling and looking clean, smooth and radiant.

Also on my list is this Palmarosa & Chamomile Sea salt & Bath soak:

perfect in helping you recover from a stressful day.

Do good while you shop:
If you buy any one of their ethically sourced incense sticks, the money from the sale will be contributed towards supporting the Sri Aurobindo Yoga Mandir Trust, situated at the base of the Himalayan Mountains overlooking the Kathmandu valley, which takes care of underprivileged and orphaned children .

SWEET DEALS!
Raw Gaia is offering 10% OFF for the two items I reviewed above: Ylang-Ylang candle and Revitalising Eye Oil.

My "Casey the Cow" from Zoocchini (Review+Giveaway) - CLOSED

Thursday, October 7, 2010

A couple of weeks back I received this cute little cow shaped hooded towel from Zoocchini! This is like the most cutest hooded towel I've ever seen! You know I love Cows. I collected cows-related thingys since college and this hooded towel gonna be my most precious of all my cow collection ^o^ Just scroll down and read along, you'll agree with me on how cute this towel is.

Zoocchini sent me one of their famous hooded towel. These towels are strictly for kids and they have several animal shapes version of this soft towel. I of course chose Casey the Cow ^o^ I mean, look at him, isn't he adorable?

Casey the cow was sent wrapped with a bow and a cute tag, what kid wouldn't love this as a gift? Even fully grown-up adults like me and hubby gone gaga when we first unwrapped this from the packing box! Here's what Casey look like when we open the ribbon:

Aawww, this Casey stole my heart ;p
But wait til you get the look on his back:

Yep, he got a cute curly tail!
Isn't it such a very cute detail?! I love it.

Say cheese!

I love the detail of it, the shape, the black n white pattern, the generous size and the soft fluffy fabric that feels cushy and soft to the touch as well as to the skin. Each hooded towel measures approximately 20" x 50" and is made of 100% 500 gsm cotton. I've tested it and it absorbs water very well. The cute character would definitely makes children happily volunteer themselves for a bath ;) It's cuddly enough to wrap your child in it after bath time. Stress Relief and Peppermint lipbalm from Aromatic Health (+ Giveaway!)

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

After waiting for a few weeks finally the package from Aromatic Health is here!! I'm so excited to try these two simple but very useful items: a Peppermint lip balm (cos I'm a lip balm sucker) and a Stress Relief roll on oil (because I easily got stressed).

Aromatic Health is a Canadian based online store where you could find clinical aromatherapy & products for health & wellness, pre/postpartum healing, baby & skin care. I love the fact that their products are handmade, and they only use pure and organic essential oils and raw ingredients. What's not to love about that? Now here's my 2 new essential items:

I like the look of the products, the comforting soft green color and the professional looking label. But what I love most is the product itself, especially the Stress Relief. This Stress Relief roll-on gave me the result I wanted.

My doctor always said that I stressed a lot. I think about a lot of things and that made me stress either I realize it or not. And that's bad for my health. That's why I quit my office work a couple of years ago because my health is deteriorating due to high stress.

And psstt... this is only between me and you, sometimes I have anxiety attack. It started a few months back but I don't know what causes it. It would start with my feet getting cold and then I started freaking out and stressed out and then my heart beats really fast. I even went to ER one night because I thought something happened with my body. But they always say I'm alright, I guess that's where I learned that I was actually experiencing an Anxiety Attack.

Thank God I hardly get them now, but sometimes my feet still got cold all of a sudden and whenever I started to stressed out I just grab this Stress Relief roll-on and glide it on my temple and nape of the neck as instructed in the bottle, and everything will be okay. I will start to loosen up and even forget about the cold feet.

This thing is also very useful during work. Sometimes if I got a load of articles to write with a very short deadline I stressed out. And it would turn me into this Lady Gaga slash Sue Sylvester from Glee - which translate to: crazy b**ch with a really bad temperament (poor hubs).
But not with this Stress Relief on hand! I just apply it on the temple and the back of my hands, it would relax me a bit because this stress relieving blend of essential oil is packed with anxiolytic properties that has relaxing effect.

I say: thumbs up for this Stress Relief product. I never leave home without it now.

And as for the Peppermint Lip Balm, well what can I say? It's minty, it moisturize my lips and it's not greasy or leave residue on my lips. It's also contain No artificial fragrances or preservatives and Non-Toxic! So if you're looking for a good minty lip balm then this should be your choice.

Aside from the two items above they also have so many other great products there, they have products in gift sets too, so you can try many items at once or you could send it to someone you care about. Take a look at this Essential Wellness Kit for example:

This Essential Gift Set is a must have for any first aid kit. It includes a 10ml roll-on of HeadBalm, 5ml Cold & Sinus essential oil blend, a 5ml First Aid essential oil blend and a tube of Peppermint Lip Balm.

Aromatic Health have four line of products:
  • AROMATHERAPEUTIC: geared towards personal health and to aid in healing common ailments. (the Stress Relief I got is from this line)
  • MOTHER & CHILD: developed for mothers and their children, to aid with both pre and post childbirth.
  • SKIN CARE: designed to nourish, pamper and soothe your skin with all natural oils and herbs. (the Peppermint Lip Balm is from this line)
  • CUSTOM FORMULAS: these are made to target specific symptoms and ailments. (Note that products can be customized, as they are made as ordered, to suit your needs, ie. allergies to an oil.)

Their products are also cruelty free and do not contain synthetic fragrances, parabens, petrochemicals or preservatives. They also use a minimal amount of packaging and promote the recycling or the re-use of their jars and bottles. GREEN LIVING to the max!

ADDITIONAL NOTE: Aromatic Health will be available in Singapore SOON! Yeay! It would be closer to me if I need to buy another Stress Relief ;)

SWEET DEALS :
Right now there are some items that are ON SALE, such as this AntiBacterial Spray from their Aromatherapeutic line. It only cost $12.71 now!
Find other items that are also ON SALE on their website.

My New Eco-Conscius Toothbrush from RADIUS -CLOSED-

Friday, March 26, 2010

I'm curious like a cat, so when I stumbled upon Radius website I was intrigued by the toothbrush selection that they offer at their website. They are not your ordinary toothbrushes, I tell you. Radius offer a revolutionary toothbrush design that makes brushing teeth fun, easier and more beneficial. Not to mention that it is eco-conscious too! Radius is a leader in natural products industry in personal care and renowned for its combination of innovative designs, premium materials, and eco-conscious manufacturing. They are also the first to accommodate both right-hand and left-hand toothbrush!! The distinctive wide surface area head design on Radius toothbrushes makes teeth more cleaner and makes it easy on the gums, putting less pressure to it - one of the biggest problem in brushing teeth.

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends replacing your toothbrush every 3 or 4 months or when bristles are frayed. And this is where Radius toothbrushes stand out. Radius toothbrushes have up to 300% more bristles than usual toothbrush and a much more effective wide oval head that's designed to fit comfortably in any mouth. On average, Radius toothbrushes last 3 times longer than any other brands. And this means good news for your wallet ^o^

I was sent a pack of assorted toothbrushes from Radius to review. I was very excited to try it because I have gone from usual toothbrush to super-soft toothbrush to those battery-powered one but still no brand has satisfied me. The first time I used my new green Original Radius toothbrush I feel my teeth has never been so clean before! But before i get to that, first I'd like to let you know what I received from Radius:

This is (from left to right) the Original and the Scuba. Noticed why the right one has different head angle? Well, because it was for the left-handed! I'm a right handed but if I were a left-handed I would probably scream over this Scuba left-hand toothbrush because it's just so cool ^o^
The Scuba is available in right or left handed, it's also available in many colors. With it's non-slip rubber handle Scuba has a flexible bend-able Neck! Designed for harder brushers, the SCUBA flexes to reduce overall pressure on gums and teeth.

I was also sent baby and kids toothbrushes that include: Pure Baby that was designed for 6-18 months old baby, Totz for 18+ months old and Kidz for 6+ years.

What I love is each product has a different softness level of the bristles so they really meet the needs of each age level. Pure Baby has premium ultra soft bristles while the Totz has premium extra-soft bristles and the Kidz has very soft bristles. The Pure Baby is BPA Free and Dye Free so it's safe for your baby. It has a tapered handle for total control, with corner-less head and cushioned brushing which will makes it comfortable in your baby's mouth.
The Totz is also BPA Free and it's FDA Approved. It also has tapered handle but with smooth oval head to make it pressure-less brushing.
The Kidz has higher bristle count and larger surface area, it also has big ergonomic handle that makes it easier for kids to hold on to their toothbrush and it makes brushing more comfortable and less painful too. The asymmetric design automatically incline the bristles at 45 degree angle toward the gum-line which is recommended by dentists.

And now to the Original toothbrush that I have been using for the past 2 weeks.

Like most of Radius toothbrushes, this Original one also has a tilted (45 degree to gum line) head which is recommended by dentists. The Original has 6500 nylon bristles with a very high tuft count to help removes plaque more effectively. The Wide oval head distributes pressure, protects and massages sensitive gum tissue. And although it looked like plastic but it's actually made from trees which are processed from sustainable yield forests into 100% renewable resource plastic! Isn't that just fabulous to hear? I love using green products to help save our environment.

See the difference of the head compared to ordinary toothbrush? That's because Radius is not just a toothbrush it's a mouth brush! :)
I admit, at first it was kinda weird and uncomfortable brushing my teeth with Radius for the first time, because the head is so wide and I'm not used to it at all. But when I finished brushing my teeth I feel like my teeth are cleaned thoroughly and my mouth feels so refreshed. On my 2nd time using it I don't feel uncomfortable anymore, because it's actually fun! I found myself brushing my teeth longer than usual which is a good thing because ADA recommends brushing your teeth for 2 minutes while I usually just brush my teeth for around a minute. But now with Radius I hope I qualify ADA recommendation ;)

I love the soft yet very thin bristles and it does increase softness and efficacy of brushing with 65% more bristle tufts than ordinary toothbrush. And the large handle prevents excess pressure due to over-gripping the toothbrush handle like I used to with my old toothbrush.

Overall, I love using Radius and if it's ADA and dentists recommended than I also recommend it to you, you will feel a new experience in toothbrushing and you might never want to change toothbrushes again :)
All Radius toothbrushes are packaged in a 100% recyclable card printed with vegetable inks.
Gotta love that!

WIN! WIN! WIN!
Radius has kindly offer one lucky reader a package of The Original toothbrush, A Source Toothbrush and a travel case!
The Source toothbrush is another Radius product which has replaceable heads. The
handles are molded from recycled US Dollar bills / Recycled Flax or Recycled Wood.
